Our Team — The People Behind Bali Salt Sea

How Bali Salt Sea Works — People, Roles and Accountability

We used to run staff profiles on this page. We have taken them down, because a supplier page that puts names, photographs and biographies in front of a buyer is making a promise about who you will deal with — and we would rather describe the work honestly than decorate it. What follows is how this business is actually organised, and what each part of it is accountable for.

Production and the farming families

Bali Salt Sea does not own a factory. Our salt is made the way Amed salt has always been made: seawater carried up the beach, evaporated in palm-trunk troughs and clay pans, harvested by hand and by judgement rather than by instrument. We work with more than fifty salt-farming families along the Amed coast, several of them third- and fourth-generation producers. Harvest timing is theirs to call — they read water, wind and cloud in a way no sensor replicates — and our role is to schedule around their season rather than push against it.

Quality control

Every batch is checked against the Geographical Indication requirements for Amed salt and against the specification agreed with the buyer: moisture, crystal size and grading, foreign matter, and packaging integrity. Where a buyer needs laboratory results, we send the batch out to an accredited lab and pass the report through unaltered. If a batch fails, it does not ship. That is a rule, not a preference.

Export and documentation

Our export desk handles quotation, contract, pre-shipment inspection and the document set — invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and the phytosanitary or health paperwork the destination requires. We quote what we can actually load in the timeframe stated. Where a lead time depends on a harvest that has not happened yet, we say so before you commit.

Who you will actually deal with

You will deal with our export desk, and with the same person from first quotation through shipment — we will tell you their name and their direct line once an enquiry is live, rather than advertising a roster here. For anything touching production or harvest scheduling, that person speaks to the farming families directly and comes back with an answer instead of a guess.

What we will not claim

We will not describe ourselves as artisans when the artisans are the families who make the salt. We will not publish a credential, a certification or a generational lineage that we cannot evidence on request. If a claim on this site matters to your purchasing decision, ask us for the document behind it — and if we do not have one, we will tell you that too.
